Audrey & Maxime Jean-baptiste : écoutez le battement de nos images

Listen to the Heartbeat of Our Images is a video work by Audrey and Maxime Jean-Baptiste that tells the fictional story of a young woman from Kourou, French Guiana, reflecting on the transformation of her territory following the creation of the space centre in the 1960s. Drawing on CNES video archives, the artists reassemble footage from different films and edit it to the rhythm of a narrative shaped by testimonies from Guyanese people. Often filmed but rarely heard in the archives, the local population is given a voice through the work. The narration complements and shifts a discourse historically focused on technological progress, offering a more intimate and human perspective on the history of the Guiana Space Centre. Working between documentary film and contemporary art, Audrey and Maxime Jean-Baptiste explore the margins and unseen dimensions of archival images.
