Families

Families brings together historical photo albums and works by contemporary artists who challenge the traditional family portrait. Exploring the complexity and discomfort of family relationships, the exhibition creates a dialogue between past and present, intimacy and memory. For this edition, writer Niña Weijers contributes ten personal texts on family, while visual artist Ugo Woatzi presents a new series of family portraits for the historic Kaiserpanorama, a 1905 wooden viewing device for stereoscopic photographs. At a time when motherhood, the nuclear family and “chosen family” are widely debated, Families offers a fresh perspective on a subject that concerns us all.
