Dialogue with the Source is a spatial installation by Belgian-Congolese artist Léonard Pongo, developed from nearly a decade of exploring the Democratic Republic of Congo. Combining photography, video and textiles, the work draws on Congolese traditions, symbolism and philosophy to explore the relationship between humans and the land. Using modified cameras, Pongo captures invisible wavelengths, creating vivid and uncanny images that reveal the richness of Congo’s natural environment while questioning the subjectivity of our gaze. Inspired by local communities, researchers and the symbolism of the banana tree, the installation invites us to reconsider how we experience and understand the earth.
