Chose Commune

In Doble Moral (Chose Commune, 2026), photographer Karla Hiraldo Voleau gives voice to women who have sought abortions in the Dominican Republic, where abortion is illegal. By handing them the camera’s shutter release, she invites them to participate in creating their own portraits. Combining personal testimonies and self-portraits, the book documents these women’s experiences and examines the relationship between control over one’s body and control over one’s image.
