Timm Rautert - Sooner or Later

Parrotta Contempoary Art Burg Lede Bonn

Two reasons to celebrate photographer Timm Rautert this autumn: Galerie Parrotta Contemporary Art marks his 85th birthday with the exhibition Sooner or Later on Burg Lede, Bonn (12 Sep–14 Nov 2026). On 24 October, Rautert receives the Cultural Prize of the German Photographic Society (DGPh), its highest honor, awarded annually since 1958.
Rautert (b. 1941), among the most influential German photographers of his generation, works at the intersection of documentary photography, conceptual art, and image analysis. The exhibition pairs early 1960s black-and-white photographs with new, autobiographical works exploring memory and how images construct reality.
Highlights include Some Pictures from my Notebook, an early New York street-photography montage, and Two Rabbits Talking with a Robot, arranging keepsakes into a meditation on memory and AI. Elsewhere, photos of painting backs by Monet, Basquiat and Richter, mounted on greeting cards, probe photography's role between art and commerce.
