The 150th anniversary of August Sander's birth (1876–1964) provides a welcome opportunity to comprehensively celebrate his multifaceted oeuvre, which developed over decades. Since 1992, the August Sander Archive has been housed in the Photographic Collection/Foundation for Culture of the Sparkasse KölnBonn. Almost all of the exhibition's exhibits come from the institution's own holdings. This is the world's largest collection of the photographer's work, offering not only famous images but also a wealth of previously little-known photographs and thematic complexes. Thus, in addition to portraits from his central cultural and social work, " People of the 20th Century," the exhibition includes photographs from his early period in Linz, Austria, as well as commissioned work from the Westerwald region spanning various decades.
