Fragments of Families

Since the early days of photography, the family has occupied a central place in the image. Today, as family structures continue to evolve, photography becomes a space to explore relationships, memory, intimacy and silence.

Fragments of Families brings together eleven Belgian photographers, or photographers based in Belgium, who all share the experience of photographing their own families. Their work explores everyday life, transmission, grief, vulnerability and memory, moving between personal archives and artistic practice.

From the tenderness of family bonds to absence and reimagined memories, the exhibition offers a fragmented and sensitive narrative around the act of photographing those closest to us.

A selection of books and photographs from the Musée de la Photographie’s collections further enriches these perspectives.
