Méditerranée. Was This Where We Lived? is a journey through time, past and present, and through the personal and political memories surrounding the Mediterranean. Anne-Lise Broyer’s soft black-and-white photographs revisit a history whose traces remain along the shores of this sea. From Tunisia to Lebanon, and through Morocco, Algeria, Turkey, Palestine, Greece, Italy, France, Egypt, Libya, Syria, Spain, and Israel, the photographer seeks to make visible the Mediterranean wound. Using ancient and modern ruins as recurring motifs and creating encounters between landscapes, local residents, and migrants, the work explores memory, displacement, and the enduring marks of history across the region.
