Carefree Times
Carefree Times, Tom Wood’s exhibition presented this autumn at Sit Down gallery, brings together two bodies of photographs never previously shown, exploring youth, freedom and nightlife in Britain during the 1970s and 1980s.
Highfields, Hippies and Strippers (1976) offers a glimpse into the lives of strippers, hippies and residents of the Highfields neighbourhood in Leicester. Alongside these works, the exhibition presents previously unseen prints from his iconic series Looking for Love (1982–1985), revisited by the artist for his recent publication, And Love Comes in at the Eye, immersing us in the nights of New Brighton.
Between celebration, desire and solitude, these previously unseen prints reveal the photographer’s singular attention to individuals and the places they inhabit. A fascinating immersion into two pivotal moments in the artist’s career.
Opening in the presence of Tom Wood on Wednesday, 18 November 2026.
