Marc Bloch, the Spirit of History

Archives Nationales
60 Rue des Francs Bourgeois
75003 Paris

On the occasion of Marc Bloch’s entry into the Panthéon on June 23, 2026, the Centre des monuments nationaux presents the exhibition Marc Bloch, The Spirit of History in the Panthéon crypt, from June 25, 2026, to January 10, 2027.

A leading historian of the 20th century, co-founder with Lucien Febvre of the journal Annales d’histoire économique et sociale, a soldier and a member of the Resistance, Marc Bloch embodied a rigorous and demanding approach to History. As the first historian to enter the Panthéon, he is honoured through an exhibition tracing his intellectual, scientific and personal journey.

Featuring a rich selection of documents, photographs, objects and books from public and private collections, the exhibition explores the work and commitments of a historian who brought his ideas and actions into harmony, from his academic career to his role in the Resistance and his ultimate sacrifice.
Exhibition in partnership with France Culture.
