Arthur Jafa: I Am Tony

New Museum
235 Bowery
10002 New York
United States

Arthur Jafa: I Am Tony is the first U.S. museum survey dedicated to the full breadth of Arthur Jafa's practice. Presented across the third and fourth floors of the expanded New Museum, the exhibition includes new works alongside landmark projects such as Love is the Message, The Message is Death (2016) and the Golden Lion-winning The White Album (2019), as well as paintings, large-scale video and film installations, sculptures, and photographic objects. Named after legendary jazz drummer Tony Williams, the exhibition traces nearly four decades of Jafa’s exploration of Black life, culture, music, history, and image-making in America. Curated by Massimiliano Gioni and Gary Carrion-Murayari.
