Drawn from the museum’s collection, this exhibition challenges the notion that photography serves as an impartial record of reality. Through staged scenes, constructed environments, performed identities, and invented narratives, artists use photography as a medium of imagination and fabrication rather than straightforward documentation. Featuring works by Sophie Calle, Renée Cox, Gregory Crewdson, Thomas Demand, Tania Franco Klein, Nikki S. Lee, Cindy Sherman, Laurie Simmons, and others, the exhibition explores how photographs actively shape perceptions of the world rather than merely reflecting it.
