Nocturnes explores the creative, emotional, and imaginative possibilities of nighttime through the work of eight photographers. The exhibition examines how darkness can evoke tranquility, mystery, wonder, and unease, presenting contemporary photographic works with a cinematic sensibility. Commissioned music, special lighting, and a sound environment created by Saam Gabbay immerse visitors in an installation inspired by experiences after dark. The exhibition is organized by the National Gallery of Art, Washington, and curated by Andrea Nelson, Associate Curator of Photographs.
