Memory Palace explores the question of what images persist in a society’s collective memory in the age of cloud storage, social media, and generative AI. Developed from a fictional text written by Clément Cogitore in 2024, the project combines 400 hours of amateur film footage sourced from public and private archives in Europe and the United States with AI-generated sequences. These synthetic images fill gaps in the archival record and subtly disrupt the narrative. Through this assemblage of personal memories, family films, and fictional elements, the work reflects on remembrance, violence, forgetting, and the stories societies choose to preserve.
