A Sense of Place reveals another dimension of Harry Gruyaert's work, a chronicle of ways of living in the city. The city becomes the stage where socialization shapes identities, where each person, in a single movement, composes their individuality and their belonging to the collective. While his compositions and mastery of color have often been celebrated, less emphasis has been placed on the place his wanderings give to the anonymous city dweller.
