People's Voice. Chicago 1972

The exhibition begins with black and white photographs taken during the demonstrations that took place in the streets of Chicago in late 1972, protesting the intensification of bombing in Vietnam. Sixteen of these photographs, which combine documentary and artistic elements, have been selected. Marisa González was pursuing her Master of Fine Arts at the Art Institute, enrolled in the Generative Systems Program, recently created by Sonia Sheridan, who was its director. Upon arriving in the United States, she found a country immersed in the mobilization of civil society, a cross-cutting movement in which students, military veterans, and a large segment of the population participated, regardless of age, race, or social status. Marisa joined the protests, camera in hand, happy to be able to exercise a fundamental right: the freedom of collective expression in the public sphere.
