Sample Library

According to Cristóbal Ascencio (Guadalajara, Mexico, 1988), a “sample library” is a collection of samples: saved files that are not valuable in themselves but rather for what can be done with them. In image and 3D software, these are photographs, textures, materials, or loose models—material available and open to being manipulated again and again.

This exhibition works in the same way: it brings together pieces that don't share a single theme, but rather a way of working, examples of a repertoire of operations on the digital image treated as if it were matter. Compressing it down to the pixel, fossilizing it in three dimensions, weaving it like physical fabric, or corrupting its code until the error reveals something that the surface conceals.
