LAILA HIDA The American Night

The American Night, by Moroccan artist Laila Hida, is part of the long-term project The Phoenix Journey, which explores imaginary constructions surrounding oasis landscapes, between colonial memory, the desire for exoticism and changing ways of seeing. Through photography, analogue film, video and installation, the exhibition examines how contemporary images and myths are constructed. Archives, objects, film fragments and scenographic structures reveal how cinema, advertising, tourism and architecture shape our perception of places. The American Night thus transforms the exhibition space into a site of critical observation, where fiction becomes a tool for examining the construction of reality.
