Gerhard Richter’s Overpainted Photographs occupy a unique place within his practice, bringing together photography and painting in hybrid works that challenge the authority of images. Beginning in the late 1980s, Richter applied oil paint, varnish, and enamel directly onto photographic prints, creating surfaces where revelation and concealment, memory and abstraction, coexist. The exhibition also includes works from the Grauwald (2008) and Museum Visit (2011) series, extending his exploration of perception, instability, and the act of looking. Through chance interventions and material experimentation, Richter questions representation, truth, and the power of images in contemporary culture.
