Archives & Found Photos: Patrick Pound and Alejandro Cartagena
L is for lonely (Perimeter Editions)
We Love Our Employees (Gato Negro Ediciones)
Through two publications centered on photographic archives, artists Patrick Pound and Alejandro Cartagena examine how images acquire new meanings when removed from their original contexts. In “L is for lonely” (Perimeter Editions), Patrick Pound brings together photographs from press and cinema archives, each associated with the word “lonely” and reproduced on both sides. In “We Love Our Employees” (Gato Negro Ediciones), Alejandro Cartagena revisits the archives of a Mexican brewery, revealing the structures of power and control behind its official representations of workers.
