VOID
In Unternächte (VOID, 2026), photographer Elena Helfrecht explores the folklore and traditions of her native Bavaria. The title refers to the twelve nights between the winter solstice and Epiphany, a period when, according to stories passed down through her family, the boundary between the living and the dead becomes blurred. Since 2018, she has returned to the Fichtel Mountains to reinterpret these inherited stories and rituals through black-and-white photography, drawing on traditions passed down by generations of women in her family.
