Mary Cassatt: After Impressionism

Mary Cassatt (1844–1926) pursued a bold and independent artistic career. After training in Philadelphia, she traveled to Europe to study art and engage directly with both traditional and modern artistic movements.

In 1877, she joined the French Impressionists, becoming the only American artist to exhibit with the group. Following the final Impressionist exhibition in 1886, Cassatt created some of the most innovative and now celebrated works of her career.
