Parade

For Parade, Belgian photographer Vincen Beeckman explored the significance and potential of carnival in collaboration with communities across Breda in the south of the Netherlands. The project considers carnival as more than a celebration, examining it as a social ritual where questions of identity, difference, and solidarity come to the forefront. Known for his community-based practice, Beeckman worked closely with participants from diverse cultural backgrounds, gathering stories, dreams, and personal experiences. The recurring question, “Who would you like to be?”, serves as a thread throughout the publication, reflecting on resilience and self-expression.
