6 ½ Weeks – Kiriakos Tompolidis : The Quiet Hour
Essen-born artist Kiriakos Tompolidis (b. 1997) takes over the Museum Folkwang with The Quiet Hour, an exhibition featuring seven new paintings. Blending personal memories with references to art history, the artist combines photography and painting.
His works draw on self-portraits, family albums, and images from diverse artistic traditions. In Sleep without Witness, the artist is shown asleep beneath a floral blanket whose motifs are embroidered directly onto the canvas, blurring the boundary between object and image.
Coming from a Greek family that settled in Germany, Tompolidis draws on his experiences between Greece, Germany, and Mexico. His paintings become spaces where memory, identity, and cultural heritage intersect.
