THE WORLD IN FOCUS

Albertina Vienna
Albertinapl. 1
1010 Vienna
Austria

This exhibition explores travel and expedition photography in the 19th century, when photography was emerging as a powerful new way of documenting and representing the world.

Driven by cultural, political and economic interests, these photographic series reflect industrialization, expanding mobility, shifting power structures and the exploration of lesser-known territories.

The works take visitors from the icy peaks of the Alps to ancient sites in the Middle East, remote regions of the Habsburg Empire and distant lands such as Japan. The photographs are drawn from the diverse collection of the ALBERTINA Museum.
