Kanoko brings together the 1939 short story Sushi by Japanese writer Kanoko Okamoto and photographs by Ayaka Endo. Part of a series that places literature and photography in dialogue within a single volume, the book allows text and image to exist in parallel rather than illustrating one another. As readers move between reading and looking, new meanings emerge. Endo’s photographs, attentive to boundaries between nature and human intervention, resonate with the enduring presence found in Okamoto’s writing, creating a subtle exchange between literary and photographic expression.
