Art Institute Chicago
111 South Michigan Avenue
IL 60603 Chicago
United States
Featuring 65 artists from more than 23 countries, this exhibition explores the rise of abstraction between 1940 and 1970, a period of major global upheaval and transformation. Abstraction became a visual language through which artists moved beyond realism to express complex emotions, ideas and experiences. The exhibition highlights the diversity of these practices, showing how artists developed very different motivations, techniques and styles.
