The Human World (Ren Jian) magazine was published in Taiwan from November 1985 to September 1989. It was founded by activist and author Chen Ying-Zhen, who brought together a team of journalists, renowned writers, photojournalists and the supporters of different political and social causes. The magazine’s aim was to encourage writers and photographers to work together in support of much-needed changes to Taiwan’s sclerotic society. In line with the magazine’s desire to show the real face of Taiwanese society, the six photographers selected for the exhibition, Guan Xiao-Rong, Juan I-Jong, Liang Kuo-Lung, Liao Chia-Chan, Tsai Ming-Te and Yen Shing-Chu, shared images with the magazine’s wide readership that conveyed a benevolent and yet critical message.
