MEM’s exhibition features a selection of images centered on Nagasaki Peace Park and its iconic Peace Memorial Statue. It reflects on the city’s clandestine Christian communities during the Tokugawa era’s prohibition of Christianity. The photographer, Shingo Kanagawa, intersperses self-portraits with depictions of religious figures, devout Catholics at prayer, and elements tied to Christian heritage. Shingo Kanagawa is a photographer born in Kyoto in 1981.
