Exactly 50 years after his disappearance at sea, the Hamburger Kunsthalle is mounting a large-scale exhibition of the fascinating work of Dutch artist Bas Jan Ader (1942–1975). Ader is regarded as a seminal figure for subsequent generations of artists – a so-called artists’ artist. Legendary among insiders, his 16mm films, slide installations, photographs and videos can now be discovered by a wider audience in an exceptional solo exhibition, along with extensive documentary material. Marking the 50th anniversary of the artist’s disappearance, the show offers a rare opportunity to experience a large selection of the artist’s works.
