In the aftermath of the First World War, a radically different approach to image making was explored as a means of dismantling established traditions and breaking with the dominant discourse which had brought so much destruction in the previous decade. Following global political and cultural upheaval, particularly in the new Soviet Union and the Weimar Republic, photographer’s lent fresh perspectives to a rapidly modernising world. Taking the genre of still life photography as its conceptual framework, the exhibition examines image-making in the interwar period.
