François-Xavier Gbré is drawn to traces. As part of the Hermès Foundation Latitudes program, he set out to travel along the railway line that crosses Côte d’Ivoire. Gbré’s photographs are charged with a form of latent historicity made up of multiple overlapping temporal layers.
From 1975 to 1986, Sibylle Bergemann photographed the creation of the Marx and Engels monument in East Berlin. These images reveal a visual language that defies official canons. Das Denkmal is one of Bergemann’s most iconic series and a hallmark of the artistic production of the time.
