The exhibition Surrealist Giacometti. Objects like Sculptures presented this summer at the Institut Giacometti suggests a unique insight on Giacometti's surrealist period from 1929 to 1935.
Though his surrealist artworks are well-known today, what is less known is that Giacometti was also involved in creating decorative art objects — lamps, andirons, or vases — for Jean-Michel Frank, famous Parisian interior designer. Long considered distinct, these two practices are here brought into dialogue. The exhibition shows how deeply they intertwine and enrich one another, in their forms, their themes, and up to the principles of their conception.
