Gregory Crewdson, a major figure on the American photographic scene, sees the photographic medium as a tool for questioning the American dream and psychoanalytically exploring the contemporary world. To this end, Crewdson produces skilfully composed, precisely orchestrated pictures that require storyboards, sets, actors and special effects. Seemingly ultra-documentary, his photographs create confusion and uncertainty, leaving the viewer free to imagine the stories behind the images.

While Gregory Crewdson is little represented in French public collections, this first museum exhibition in France is an opportunity to (re-)discover an artist with diverse references, such as the paintings of Edward Hopper, the films of David Lynch or the novels of Stephen King.
