Spot Home Gallery presents the first retrospective exhibition in Italy by Japanese artist Miho Kajioka, titled What Did the Mermaid Tell You?, featuring a selection of works spanning over a decade: And Do You Still Hear the Peacocks?, a series born in the wake of the Fukushima tragedy, a silent reflection on the beauty that emerges after pain; So It Goes , a poetic investigation of non-linear time and memory; the most recent Tanzaku series , small visual fragments inspired by the vertical strips of paper on which, in Japanese tradition, poems are written; and several previously unseen works created for the occasion.
The title "What did the mermaid tell you?" draws inspiration from a reflection on the profound and unexpected connection between Naples, the city hosting the exhibition, and Miho Kajioka's homeland, Japan. In this shared world of myths and traditions, the mermaid becomes our guide, leading us into Miho Kajioka's poetic universe, suspended between the visible and the invisible, light and shadow, presence and absence.
