The 'Ouch' exhibition is a double voiceover by artists Karolina Balcer and Michalina Kacperak about life in a family affected by trauma – including the crisis of one’s brother’s homelessness (Balcer) and the other’s father’s alcohol use disorder (Kacperak), as well as the codependency of those closest to them. It is also an exhibition about the power of cooperation, which, as the artists, who are tired of working independently with challenging subjects, admit, ‘refreshes and strengthens’. Although they use different techniques – fabric (Balcer), photography (Kacperak) – the artists have much in common. What they share is a seemingly candy-colored form, humor, lack of literalism, but most of all the courage to tell their story, tenderness towards their families and inclusion of their family members in the creative process.
