Katalin Ladik is a figure in experimental sound, photography, and performance art, known for using her body and voice as both instrument and medium since the 1960s. She was active in Central and Eastern Europe, with her influence extending beyond. “Ooooooooo-pus” is her first major exhibition in Scandinavia.
At the core of Ladik’s work is language, which she explores through poetry, music scores, concrete poems, visual collages, and installations, often accompanied by sonic interpretations that highlight her vocal range. Her practice is rooted in “logopoiesis,” a process of creating new linguistic registers through acts of poetry, utterance, and visualization. This approach aligns with the concept of “phonopoetica,” as articulated in her 1976 album, where poetry is experienced through the voice.
