The most comprehensive exhibition ever offered in Italy on the work of Tina Modotti (1896-1942) arrives in Turin after the success gathered at the Palazzo Roverella stage in Rovigo. From October 16, 2024 to February 2, 2025, CAMERA’s spaces will host the exhibition Tina Modotti. L’Opera, curated by Riccardo Costantini – promoted by Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Padova e Rovigo and produced in collaboration with Cinemazero – dedicated to one of the most relevant figures in 20th-century photography. The 300 works on display in Turin tell the story of Modotti’s versatility, artistic peculiarities, and curious, participatory and free-spirited nature, which during her short but intense career managed to capture the depth and contrasts of the worlds she traversed, expressed through portraits of everyday life, but also and most importantly by portraying injustice, labor, political activism, poverty, and the contradictions of progress and the transition to modernity. The exhibition has a documentary relevance, as it collects various unpublished materials, videos, magazines, documents, newspaper clippings, portraits of the artist, as well as photographs dating back to the first and only exhibition that Tina Modotti made in 1929, which testify and do justice to the photographer’s art.
