Marie-Laure de Decker, one of the most daring photographers of her generation, is the subject of a major retrospective. After her death in 2023, her son, Pablo Saavedra de Decker, began organising her archive, which covers almost fifty years of her career. Marie-Laure de Decker became known for her vivid reportage of the major conflicts of the 20th century, capturing their intensity as she travelled the world. At the same time, she created striking portraits of iconic figures such as Marcel Duchamp and Gilles Deleuze, and explored her own image through a series of emblematic selfportraits.
This exhibition, which fills the two main floors of the MEP, includes vintage prints on display for the first time, offering a new perspective on this pioneering photojournalist. Born in Algeria in 1947, Marie-Laure de Decker left an indelible mark on the world of photography.
