The exhibition “La pêche au-delà du cliché, inédits de la collection” (Fishing beyond the cliché, unpublished items from the collection) reveals how the sea and fishing communities were perceived by photographers from the mid-19th to the early 21st century, through nearly 70 pieces from the museum's collection, presented to the public for the first time.
Imagined as a stroll through the Musée National de la Marine's rich collection of photographs, the exhibition documents, through nearly 70 pieces, the way in which the sea and fishing communities were perceived from the mid-nineteenth century to the last years of the twentieth century. It is based on the work of photographers whose work is relatively well known, such as Anita Conti, Lucien Chauffard, Emmanuel Ortiz and Serge Lucas, and aims to highlight the work of photographers whose work has been less widely distributed.
