The mahJ presents the first retrospective in Paris, bringing together nearly 300 photographs, objects, letters and publications dedicated to Denise Bellon (1902-1999), a humanist photographer, pioneer of photojournalism and companion of the Surrealists, whose unique and little-known work spans the 1930s to the 1970s.
Born in Paris to a Jewish family originally from Alsace and Germany, Denise Hulmann worked at Studio Zuber, then helped found Alliance Photo, the first photographic agency between the two world wars.
