The exhibition title, ANOTHER COUNTRY IN NEW YORK, derives from Moriyama’s self-published photobook of the same name, produced in 1974 as part of the Daido Moriyama Printing Show. The Printing Show was an extremely experimental project for its time. During the event, photographic prints taken by Moriyama during his stay in New York in 1971 were copied, bound on site, and offered for immediate sale—an approach that resembles what we would now call a “zine.” The resulting publication, ANOTHER COUNTRY IN NEW YORK, later became known as a “legendary copy book” and remains a unique work in the history of photobooks.
