While working on this photobook, I was able to reunite countless times with all the phenomena I had photographed and fragmented— various places, times, and scenes, along with the light and shadows they portrayed. This 　book contains my oldest surviving photographs, a snapshot of Osaka at night taken in 1960, around the time I first got into photography, through to the publication of "Light and Shadow" in 1982, two decades later. The 　majority of this archive consists of prints exhibited at the University of Tokyo in 1976, through the eyes and hands of my photography mentor, Eikoh Hosoe. These prints have since become major exhibits in numerous international exhibitions, beginning with the San Francisco Museum of Art in 1999.
