The exhibition presented at the Julian Sander Gallery not only brings together motifs from all of Lisette Models' series but also provides further insights into the work of Gerd Sander. He helped to raise awareness of her work in the late 1970s and early 1980s, not only through his work as a gallery owner. As an accomplished printer, he undertook the creation of new prints of her well-known motifs from the 1930s and 1940s. Working proofs preserved in his estate illustrate his personal achievements in the darkroom – many of the negative models were in a problematic condition at the end of their lives, so the production of the editions required a high degree of chemical and physical expertise and craftsmanship.
