Carlos Carvalho Gallery presents "A Turtle with a Broken Back”, an exhibition by Portuguese photographer Tiago Casanova from March 21 to May 25, 2024. It's a photographic essay that portrays the communities and territory of São Tomé and Príncipe facing the challenges of resource scarcity and climate change, in a historical period that marks 50 years of its independence. Each photograph in this project is a testimony to the complex dynamics of local domestic economies, where daily survival is linked to the historical consequences of the colonial past, and to the new challenges that the growth of tourism imposes.
