Musée du Louvre
On 15 April 2019, the Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral was tragically set ablaze, its iconic spire were reduced to ashes. The strong emotion aroused throughout the world by this terrible event was met by the courage of the Paris fire brigade, the generosity of numerous donors and the total mobilisation of modern-day cathedral builders, who have since been engaged in an exceptional restoration project.
By 2024, the work should be completed. The Louvre Museum will be devoting an eventful exhibition to the cathedral’s treasure, before its definitive return to its original setting. Since 2019, a very large number of its precious objects have been transferred to the Louvre Museum for conservation and protection. Through the hundred or so works on display, this presentation will showcase to the world the rich history of this unique collection, from its medieval origins to its 19th-century revival.
