The exhibition in the two galleries and in the garden of Lede Castle features Thomas Rentmeister with former students. In addition to sculptural works, it includes installations, film, photography, drawings, and performances. What connects the selected works is also what separates them. Between them is an air they seem to breathe together. By crossing boundaries—be they art and everyday life, human and thing, subject and object—they become chimeras of disparate or even contradictory elements. Lorain Daston speaks of the eloquence of things that emerge from a concrete work process and their social use. The material, which sometimes eludes control within experimental processes, is at the center of narratives draped in fragile beauty about memory, voids, and the utopian potential of self-empowerment.
