Richard Mosse (Ireland, 1980) has made a name for himself with his engaging documentaries, which he often presents in immersive, monumental installations. He is best known for his red and pink landscapes in the Infra series (2010), which depicts the civil war in the Democratic Republic of Congo. More recently, he has turned his attention to migratory flows, which he captures with military thermal imaging cameras (The Castle, 2017, Incoming, 2018). The result of three years of filming, Broken Spectre plunges into the heart of the Brazilian Amazon. Through this monumental video installation, Richard Mosse bears witness to the devastating effects of deforestation in the Amazon rainforest. Playing with scales and points of view, the artist vividly illustrates the scale and organization of environmental destruction. Alternating aerial views and sequences shot in remote areas of the world's largest rainforest, Broken Spectre is a cry of alarm about the disappearance of the rainforest.
