For her third solo exhibition at the gallery, in camera presents Revelation , the latest series by Iranian-Austrian artist Sissi Farassat, in which she releases fragments of selected images. Within the exhibition, these partially concealed prints form a whole where the image is revealed through omissions. At the heart of Sissi Farassat's work lies an essential gesture: that of choosing what she shows, and what she withholds.
For those familiar with Sissi Farassat's work, Revelation is first and foremost a surprise. A pioneer in manipulating her photographic prints with beadwork and other techniques to augment the image through manual surface treatment, Farassat here proposes a reverse method. The original image is found and then covered over. We see it only in fragments; we must guess at it. The desired object reveals itself only through concealment. It is about the body, the face, and seduction. What we perceive evokes an era when the attributes of beauty were defined by the codes of cinema and magazines; we still find there the somewhat outdated elegance of Hollywood women and staged kisses.
