PGI is pleased to present Pomegranate, an exhibition of large-format 8×10 photographs by Japanese photographer Naohisa Hara.

Hara is best known for his series portraying European cities and towns, including Paris and Italian mountain towns. In recent years, he has continued to document the rapid transformation of Asian cities in a travelogue-style series.

Alongside his urban photography, Hara continues to produce close-up works centered on fruit and other still-life motifs. The subject of the Pomegranate series presented in this exhibition is a pomegranate tree planted by Hara's father at the entrance to the family home. The tree's changes throughout the seasons, the process of the fruit growing and ripening on its branches, and how the fruit eventually splits open to reveal its interior became decisive motifs in Hara's close-up work.
